2024: a writing odyssey

Greetings everyone. My previous post was a bit of a downer, and for that, I apologize. Working on the parody just wasn’t working for me, and it took way too long for me to acknowledge that. It’s still not done, and won’t be for quite a while, but it’s on the back burner, so I’ll come back to it eventually. Moving right along…

April is here, and with a new month comes a new project. I’ve mentioned the space novel before, and that’s what I’m working on now, and will be for the rest of the year. Previously, I thought (and posted here) that I’d be able to do this and another novel draft by the end of the year, but that’s not attainable, for a number of reasons. Therefore, my entire year from here on out will be dedicated to said space novel, and I’m excited about it!

Previously, I thought I’d use my previous work as is, and simply add to it. Upon further consideration, however, I think a full rewrite is what I need to do. I’ve gotten better as a writer over the last four years, and I wouldn’t want to have the draft be a combination of good and bad writing; I want it to be all good! Therefore, I’m starting from square one. I’m still in chapter one (I’m going a little slowly, but that’s okay), but already it’s quite a bit different, and I think it’s going well.

So that’s my news. I’m (re)writing my space opera novel that’s been evolving in my brain for nearly twenty-five years. I’m a bit nervous (since I tried before and it didn’t work out), but I’m more confident about my writing, and I’m in a better position than I was four years ago.

I’ve got the rest of the year to produce the first draft of my magnum opus. No pressure! But seriously, this is the story I’ve wanted to write for a long time. This time, I think I can do it. Onward!
